Veggie Hound, He nose Good Food

This is a blog written by veggiehound

So we come to it finally. A 5-bone eatery. This place has it all – the food, the ambience, the beautiful people, live music, art - what else could one ask for?
The food at OOB is spectacular. You could possibly get better sizzlers or Fondue or pasta, but it would not taste as good.
With tons of options to choose from, its tough to pick. But thats why they pay me the piddly bucks. To start with, sample the wine and drinks menu. The Sangria is a standout as is the caipirinha. The beer and hard booze list is decent and the range of mocktails is robust. While they offer a decent collection of international wines, the domestic selection is probably their weakest point. No Sula wines on the list mean you dont get the Dindori Shiraz or Chenin Blanc.
The starters are delectable. I would recommend either the pesto crostini platter or the stuffed mushrooms. If you cant decide, order both! The list of salads is very good as well.
The main course is all about the bakes and sizzlers for me. There are some excellent pastas, but try one of the bakes instead – maybe the Veg Exotica. Nice cheese, without overwhelming the palate. In the sizzlers, the veg sizzler with barbeque sauce is my pick.
But the great thing about OOB is the ambience. A huge canvas canopy covers the large outdoor seating area. Kept cool by giant fans in the summer, there is a variety of seating from comfy chairs to floor seating. Take your pick. Live music is there most nights and there is even a small art gallery for you to browse through. This is one place which rocks at night and is the ultimate “chill pill” over lunch. So much so that it manages to attract everyone – bankers, housewifes, students, artists, media folk and even actors. Need i say more?
Well, I will. OOB is perfect for almost any occasion – working lunch, special parties etc. But the best idea would be to head here with your partner or some close friends. Get some food, drink and enjoy a meal the way you wish every meal could be.
My recco – A 5-boner means GO NOW!

Out of The Blue is definitely on my list of ’special dining places for special occasions’.

What’s good: Cheese fondue and the paparika sauce!Full Review:So I finally made it to Out of The Blue after much delay and despair. With tables already booked we did not have to wait outside (though confusion amongst the gang led us to book 2 tables instead of one!!) The hostess, who was extremely helpful, helped us out of the whole conundrum by directing us to where the rest of the gang was sitting!Anyways, getting back to the review, the first thing that hit me about the place (besides the courteous hostess) was the decor and ambiance. Till date, I haven’t been to a place where I wanted to stay longer not because of the food but for the look and feel of the place. It also has a live singing performance which adds to the whole experience of dining at Out of The Blue.Fast forwarding to our orders, we first started off with drinks and a starter. Drinks included, Cinderalla, Virgin Pincolada, Blue Driver, Italian Kiss and Guava Fizz. Fortunately for me, I could try out all these drinks. They also have a pretty impressive selection of wines and hard drinks as well. The only think I can really say is, order what you want, you will not be disappointed in the drinks departments. The mocktails, were made out of fresh fruits which was quite evident from the taste. The starter, Cottage Cheese CorianderJalepenos Paneer, was yummy though a bit bland. We also ordered for the Cheese Fondue which was quite filling and we were unsure whether after that we could possible have the main course. However, we decided, why not so ordered for: Paneer Steak Paprika, Chicken and Prawn pasta, Chicken Masala Mafia, Grill Breast Chicken and the Desi Veg shaslik. The Italian stuff was quite good though the quantity of chicken and prawns was a little less than say what you get at Da Vinci, but the penne was awesome and the quantity good as well! The veg sizzlers were a delight really. The Paprika Sauce was just something quite extra ordinary. between the two who ordered the veg sizzlers, nearly 5 servings of Paprika sauce were shared!!!My friend, who thought he ordered a sizzlers but ended up ordering a BBQ, was served the BBQ as a sizzler on request (yes yes with cheese on top of it!), which I thought was a really good gesture from the management. We paid Rs.3262 for a sumptuous meal coupled with an amazing ambiance, very very courteous hostesses/waiters/management and a live performance from a really good singer! It was a delightful sight to see people singing along!Out of The Blue is definitely on my list of ’special dining places for special occasions’. And just for the record, we were celebrating our friend’s birthday!

I thought I will write my first post of the year on one of our long standing favourites, Out Of The Blue (OOB). This is the continental restaurant at Bandra, Ambedkar Road.I had first heard of it as one of the two places that served fondues in the early 2000s. The other was Starters and More which has shut down now.Kainaz and I first went to Out Of the Blue while we were dating in 2000. We dug into the wondrous, cheesy world of fondues. It was a discovery which in our world matched up with Colombus’ discovery of the Americas. Little bits of meat to dip in a pot of melted cheese. Few experiences can match up with this.I also associated them with the variety of flavours which they introduced in sizzlers which went beyond the pepper sauce and shaslik fare of Kobes and Yokos. Plus OOB offered small and large portions which allowed Kainaz and me to chose individual platters.Over the years OOB remained a favourite of ours.Out of the Blue has a nice ambiance. It has an indoor section as well as an outdoor one. It has expanded since when it had first opened. There is a certain magic in the air here which is difficult to define. The place is very smartly designed. The dark wood furniture, the candle lights at night, the pebbled section at the entrance with a tiny fish pond gives a lovely laidback, relaxed feel to it.It has become a bit of a special occasion place for us. And it is not just about the ambiance. The food here is really memorable. We have explored their menu beyond the sizzlers and the fondues. They serve great pastas. The best thing about their pastas is that they get it to the table fresh and hot. In fact I have often seen the chefs get it straight to the table from the kitchen. We love their four cheese pasta which is a cheese lover’s (we both are) delight. I love their penne pesto too as it is one of the few places which understand you if you want a non creamy pesto. We went there yesterday, 1st January, and had a lovely penne pesto with prawns. The penne flavour is very delicate and you can make out a fine balance of basil, cheese, garlic and olive oil. No ingredient is over powered by the other. In fact they are one of the few places who always get a pesto right.
They have lovely barbecues as well. Yesterday we had a barbecued pork with sage. The meat had a slight ham like taste, was very tender and the sauce was amazing. Each bite was a pleasure. They had presented the dish very nicely on a dish of garlic flavoured hash. The look of the dish itself was orgasmic (the photo below is from my mobile camera). As was the taste.
I am also fond of their red ginger pork spare rib sizzler. This is very different from what gets elsewhere. The quality of the pork is fantastic, extremely tender and fresh. Plus you don’t get pork in most of the standard sizzler restaurants here. The sauce is very different too.The wine list is quite wide and they have a good selection of drinks. I am often tempted to go in for a nice red wine, martini or vanilla Absolut here over my usual poison of Old Monk rum. These add to the bill considerably but brings alive the meal.Kainaz and I love Out Of the Blue. I have also recommended it to, and gone with, colleagues, clients, friends and family members. And each visit has been successful as whoever I have suggested Out Of The Blue too has loved it.I would consider Out Of the Blue on the steep side. The average dish costs between Rs 250 – 500 (5 – 10 USD) and the drinks touch Rs 300 (6 USD). Basilico and Pot Pourri at Bandra would be cheaper options. But Out of the Blue would be more memorable both in terms of experience and in terms of the food.

Mothers Day

Background of Mothers Day
The modern Mother's Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis, as a day to honor mothers and motherhood; especially within the context of families , and family relationships. When the first Mother's Day was observed at the request of Anna Jarvis in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on
May 10, 1908, carnations were supplied at the church service. This was because carnations were her mother's favourite flowers.Thereafter, carnations have come to be associated with Mother's Day. White carnations are supposed to represented purity and love. Now it has become a tradition to regard red carnations as a symbol of a living mother; white carnations on the other hand are offered if one's mother has died
Mothers Day at Out Of The Blue
We celeberated Mothers Day on 10th May 2009.
This is an annual celeberation. We have found Mothers Day to be very popular with our guests. Worldwide its said that this day is more popular than Valentine s day. In fact the creator of the event was upset with the commercialisation of this day. The holiday became so commercialized that it's considered by many as a "Hallmark Holiday", i.e. one with an overwhelming commercial purpose.
Its been our endeavour to make Out Of The Blue a place which is associated with warm memories for our guests.
Our team made an effort do a little bit extra for the event. The meal experience was offered a flexibility of choice in food packages, live bands, activity to engage all mothers and lots and lots of gifts. Gifts to ensure that everyone went home with something.

Out Of The Blue offered both a la carte and buffet for this event.
We had a full house on the Sunday afternoon. Our guests enjoyed a live band on this leisurely afternoon. In addition we had a foot massage by True Fitness. The foot massage was a huge hit.

For the first time we had Yves Saint Laurent at Out Of The Blue. The guests got a a free manicure. Mothers Day is a special day and our team ensured that everyone take home something. We had gift hampers from Yves Saint Laurent ,VIP vouchers from True Fitness and Exotic food baskets from Chenab Empex.

The day is truly a day for families to come together.

We look forward to celebrate Fathers Day in June.
